A Scripture to Link with Our Desire to Become Christ-Like

This morning I was enjoying a serene time alone with the Lord on my back patio. As I dwelt in His glorious presence, knowing some of His great love for us, He led me to slowly read through my Bible’s concordance on certain words, which then led me to particular Scriptures. In this gentle and restful manner, He surprised me with Satan’s word to Eve in Eden, wherein He revealed more regarding our desire to become Christ-like that I am to share with you now. (See prior post The Vital Distinction between “Becoming of Christ” and “Becoming Christ-Like” if you haven’t already).

It’s very important that we know our heavenly Father is bringing us this understanding from the blessed standpoint of His indescribable love for us in Christ. He tells us this in LOVE in order that we captives be set free, that we be released from darkness and receive His crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair (Isaiah 61:1-3). Breathe deeply this blessed salvation, then read on.

The revelation is this: our desire to become Christ-like is the same desire to be like God, knowing good and evil that caused Adam and Eve to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and thereby miss God’s bountiful provision for them in Eden (Genesis 3:5 ff). Meditate on this for a while to receive a blessing!

Linking this with the vital distinction between becoming of Christ and becoming Christ-like, we get this powerful understanding:

As believers in Jesus Christ, the promises of God are ours, and we already partake of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). Satan’s only recourse is to deceive us, just as he deceived Adam and Eve to believe the lie that God had not already provided them everything they needed with the Tree of Life!  Our desire to become Christ-like indicates we are not believing that God has already ensured that we are becoming of Christ. It is incumbent upon us to know, believe, and rest upon God’s blessed promises.

Praise God we have divine power to demolish strongholds that keep us from apprehending His truth (2 Cor. 10:3-6)! Praise God for tearing the veil of deceit through Jesus Christ! We are delivered into the light, and He rejoices with us! Hallelujah!

At that time, Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.” – Luke 10:21

The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. – Zeph. 3:17

  1. Mighty to save! Became part of a praise and worship song and is such a good Word! We can be distracted by the enemy in so many ways yet if we focus on God’s strength we can regain our perspective. You provided a nice description of your morning time with God. Thank you for your writing!
